Using task flow diagrams to hypothesize and iterate information architecture and interaction design paradigms
Ontologies, taxonomies, way-finding, conditional logic, and the four paradigms of search form the bedrock of information architecture and interaction design. Mapping and visualizing complex logic flows is one of my core competencies (and an area where AI consistently falls short). Task flow diagrams remain, in my view, among the most undervalued and misunderstood deliverables in all of UX.

Scenario 1
First use: acquiring a Vehicle Passport (during in-person purchase experience at dealership)
There are several ways to acquire a vehicle passport. Another user can push a vehicle passport to you or new passports can be created manually. In this scenario and task flow diagram we take a look at how a vehicle passport is passed from dealer agent to retail customer.
Scenario 2
Using the Vehicle Passport to streamline the dealership trade-in experience
In scenario 2, we assume Nick’s Mercedes-Benz passport has kept up with his vehicle’s dynamic and static attributes over the last 2 years. The Vehicle Passport app recognizes a growing demand for Nick’s Mercedes and chooses the best time to proactively alert Nick to the opportunity. Nick is ready to drive something new and uses the Vehicle Passport app to start the trade-in process.
Scenario 3
Listing a vehicle for sale on Amazon (or other direct peer-to-peer network using Bluetooth Low Energy Mesh)
In this scenario, a proposal is made to address users wishing to sell direct and how they might list a sell or buy intention on different marketplaces including Amazon as well as the Vehicle Passports’ own buy/sell platform.
